  10. Synchronize! Pro is a file server mirroring, synchronization and backup utility. It will mirror a file server, including user and group privileges, keep the files in two folders synchronized, and backup a file server or hard disk to another disk.

  12. Synchronize! Pro will save you time, effort and frustration by maintaining a "hot backup" of important information on your file server.
  13.  
  14. Synchronize! Pro can run entirely automatically, mounting a file server with a password, identifying changed files, copying files, copying privileges, and unmounting the file server at any preset time, periodically. AutoSync, a background application, opens Synchronize! when the next preset time arrives. Synchronize! quits (optionally) when copying is complete.

  16. Synchronize! Pro works with System 6.0.2 or later, or System 7 or later. It provides Balloon Help and Apple Guide, works with AppleScript, and works with Macintosh Drag and Drop. It will work with a mimimum of 300K of RAM.

  24. Upgrades are free when downloaded from any online service. Replace your old version with the new "demo" version, which is also an updater. If you have previously purchased Synchronize! Pro, your serial number is automatically recognized by the new version.

  32. • Completely automatic operation. Starts once or periodically at a preset time, or when disks become available. Automatically connects and disconnects AppleTalk Remote Access and file server disks.

  34. • Hierarchical display of files to be copied, just like the Finder. See the files which will be copied, and the folders they reside in.
  35.  
  36. • Synchronize deleted files. When you delete a file from one disk, Synchronize! Pro recognizes that the matching file should also be deleted.

  38. • Check for conflicts. Synchronize! Pro notifies you when two matching files have both been changed, or a file will overwrite a matching file of another type, and lets you set the action to be taken.

  40. • Copies files to and from any disk which appears on the desktop. Works with AppleShare, File Sharing, AppleTalk Remote, and SCSI Disk Mode.

  42. • Copies bidirectionally (for file synchronization) or in one direction only (for a quick backup, file server mirroring, or file distribution to other sites). Creates an exact duplicate of a folder or a hard disk by copying only new or changed files.

  44. • Copy in the background, at variable speeds. Set the copying speed that best fits your need – slow and unobtrusive, or really fast, faster than the Finder.

  46. • Logs activities. Review the results of previous synchronizations, including ones done automatically.

  48. Options
  49. -------
  50. Each document can be customized in its operation with the following options:
  51.  
  52. • Sync privileges.  Copy user and group privileges on an AppleShare server to a backup server, or to a special file on a hard disk. Restore these privileges (along with your data) if your primary server fails.

  54. • Synchronize automatically. Start synchronization at a preset time, when you start or quit the program, or when disks become available.
  55.  
  56. • Make an AppleTalk Remote Access connection, synchronize your files, unmount a file server, and disconnect, all without having to enter passwords.
  57.  
  58. • Show the files and folders to be copied, deleted, or moved in a hierarchical list, with the opportunity to delete files, or remove some files from the list of files to be copied.

  60. • Close the document, Quit, or Shut Down when copying is complete. Run Synchronize! Pro as the last thing you do. Let it shut down your Mac when it’s done copying.

  62. • Eject disks (or unmount servers) when copying is complete.
  63.  
  64. • Use aliases to include files or folders in a synchronization, even when they reside elsewhere on your disk.

  66. • Copy only certain files or folders. Designate files to be copied by full or partial file name, date modified, file type, creator, and label. Include or exclude the contents of any folder, by name or label.

  68. • Copy AutoDoubler files in their compressed form. Copy files compressed by AutoDoubler in their compressed form, saving time and space, even to floppy disks!

  70. • Verify files.  Verify that floppy disks have been correctly written by reading the information and comparing to what was written.

Synchronize! Pro can be downloaded from many online services. For demonstration, Synchronize! allows basic file synchronization to be used free; when advanced features are used, copying is limited to folders which contain no more than 400K. On CompuServe, look for SYNCH.SEA in the Utilities library section of the Macintosh Systems forum. On America Online, look in the Utilities library of the Computing and Software department. Synchronize! Pro is also available on the World Wide Web at http://www.qdea.com, and via ftp at ftp.qdea.com, in the directory /pub/qdea.
